Webster Gardens Lutheran Church knows the power of serving those less fortunate. We have seen tears of joy flowing from the eyes of those who have been served, and we have experienced the powerful impact that being served has had in their lives. Christ calls us to “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.” (Ephesians 6:7) That’s what we did through the EXTREME MAKEKOVER: WEBSTER GARDENS EDITION. We impacted a single mom and her family powerfully with the love of Jesus Christ. We served Christ as we served her.
Thank you so much to those of you who contributed to this God-honoring and amazing ministry with your time, sweat, skills, and financial resources. Your financial support made it possible for us to do everything that was necessary for the job to be done well and right, and your labors transformed this 122-year old home (which was a forever fixer-upper) into a beautiful home for Linda and her family. You were among more than 52 families who gave to this project and more than 130 people who worked on the project. News of what we did was aired locally on Channel 5 and Channel 2 and appeared in some area journal newspapers and in the City of St. Louis Spanish paper.
We also received donations from many, many local businesses including: Kirkwood Material Supply, Sunset Plantland, Lowe’s Kirkwood Store, Sunset Hills Home Depot, Southtown Home Depot, Kingshighway Home Depot, Thrivent Financial, Rothman Furniture, Gene Offutt, Dumpster Company, Camp Wartburg, G&C Roofing LLC, Affton Provision, Imo’s Pizza in Webster, Dierbergs Mackenzie Point, Strothkamp’s Paint Store, Best Buy, Warehouse of Fixtures, and many others donations of furniture and more from individual members of the congregation.
It was amazing to see the reaction of Linda and her children on the REVEAL afternoon, Sunday, April 4. Nearly 200 people welcomed her home, including many of her own family and friends. Her expression of thanks and her acknowledging Christ as her true source of strength were so powerful to witness.
Thank you again so much for your support of this powerful project. As you are moved by God to do so, I encourage you to continue giving to EXTREME MAKEOVER or FIRST SERVE SATURDAY for future projects. I also encourage you to participate in FIRST SERVE SATURDAYS. We meet at 8:00 am in the church parking lot on the first Saturday of every month. After a brief prayer, we go out and serve single moms, widows and those who are disabled on a little smaller scale.
To God be all the glory! We serve others because HE first served us!
