JAMES – EPISTLE OF STRAW?                      Professor Joel Biermann - Friendship Hall

Luther once assessed the value of the Book of James by deeming it an “epistle of straw”—which only proves that nobody is right all of the time.  The brief letter of James, every Christian knows, declares that faith without works is dead.  Beyond the catchphrase, however, the faithful leader of the church in Jerusalem has much to say about what it means for the believer to put into action a faith that is alive and dynamic.  Join Dr. Biermann in Friendship Hall for an engaging study of James.

1 PETER: God’s Chosen People                                    Terry Whittle - Board Room

By inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Peter writes his first epistle to those concerned about living their Christian faith in a sometimes unreceptive and even hostile environment. He focuses on what God has done to save us through Christ Jesus, an appropriate lifestyle for those who belong to Christ, the comfort and power God gives through the means of grace, and priorities for those who know the Lord is coming soon. Peter’s words of hope are just as timely today as they were for the believers of the firist century who first received them.

LIQUID SUNDAY SMALL GROUPS                                                     North Classrooms A, B & C

At least once a day we look into a mirror and see an image of ourselves.  But have you ever stopped to think about the image
you’re looking at?  A mirror image is actually a reverse picture.  Left is right, right is left.  A mirror image shows us things from the opposite perspective.  The parables do the same thing.  They have a way of getting people to look at their lives in a different way, from a different perspective...a mirror image. Connect with other parents who have kids your kids’ ages. Check out one of these Sunday mornings small groups as we study the parables of Jesus using the Liquid Small Group DVD series “MIRROR IMAGE.”

Ephesians Pastor Joel Biermann

“For by grace you have been saved through faith….” Ephesians 2:8-9. It is a text riveted in the memory of most Christians. But there’s more to the book of Ephesians than two significant “Catechism verses.” In the compact space of six chapters, the Apostle Paul soars to the dizzying heights of the most profound theology and then dives into the trenches of the most mundane affairs of daily life. Through it all, the Holy Spirit delivers His relevant and practical Word for Christians like you. Join Pastor Biermann for a careful verse by verse study of Ephesians.
