Assimilation Ministry


We want to have it "together" here at Webster Gardens. God calls us to be together with Him, to worship and study together, to serve and love together. Our Assimilation Team has its primary responsibility of bringing new people together into the life of the congregation.

As you read Acts 2:42-47, there is one word that leaps from the page - together!

"All the believers were together."
"Every day they continued to meet together."
"They broke bread in their homes and ate together."

We want to have it "together" here at Webster Gardens. God calls us to be together with Him, to worship and study together, to serve and love together. Our Assimilation Team has its primary responsibility of bringing new people together into the life of the congregation.

There are two key steps to our membership process:
Discovering the Faith this is an 8 session class taught 3 times a year (Winter, Summer, Fall) about the basics of the Christian faith as seen from a Lutheran perspective. Anyone can attend these classes; there is no commitment required. Together we will discover who God is, His call in our lives, His desire for us, and especially His love for us. All who are coming to Webster Gardens from a non-Lutheran background take this course prior to membership.

Discovering Webster Gardens Discovering Webster Gardens follows right after Discovering the Faith. All who become members at Webster Gardens (those who have completed DTF and those who are coming to us from other Lutheran churches) take this 5 session class. Together in this class we learn Webster Gardens' mission and some very practical discipleship tools, learning how to pray, how to read the Bible, how to be in ministry, and how to share our faith.

After completing Discovering Webster Gardens we have a celebration on New Member Sunday. Our partnership will continue as we seek to connect and involve people in relationships and ministry. God knows that living life by yourself is way too dangerous. As Robert Tuttle said, "To get singled out is to get picked off." We are here together!

There are many reasons to rejoice in what God is doing at Webster Gardens - Here are some ways to get involved:

Call Worship Guests - If you love people, especially those who are looking for a church home, this is just for you. You will receive a list of 10-15 names to phone and invite to worship with us on Easter.

Parking Lot Attendants - The construction has made it necessary to assist our members, and especially guests, with parking when they come for worship. If you can spend 30 minutes "directing traffic" once a month, this opportunity is for you. You will be trained.

Nursery Workers - Do you love children? Would you like to nurture and care for young children 3-4 times each year through the nursery ministry? If so, please indicate your desire on your attendance card.

Sound Technicians - Sound techies are needed for every service, 8/9:30/10:55 am and 7 pm on Sundays. If you have a keen ear and an interest in technology, your services are needed in this vital ministry. Please contact Brett Miller at 966-5370 or bmiller04@earthlink.

Hospitality Teams - Do you enjoy greeting people? Have people said about you, "He/she never knew a stranger"? If so, you are needed to partner in the Hospitality Team ministry. Accompanist - Do you play the organ? Do you play the piano? Are you an intermediate to advanced level accompanist hiding the light of your talent instead of using it at Webster Gardens? If so, know that YOU ARE NEEDED. Accompanists are needed to assist with instrumental ensembles. Contact Paula at 961-5275 or paula@webstergardenschurch.org.

Adult Bible Class Leaders - If you like to teach and share God's Word with fellow adults, then this ministry opportunity is for you. We have need for additional Bible Class teachers for Sunday mornings, either at 9;30 or 10:55 am. Classes may be taught in a four-, six-, or eight-week series. Spiritual Life Ministry Team - This ministry entails shepherding 18 families under your care. It involves building relationships and encouraging and praying regularly for the members in your Ministry Group. It is reaching out and helping another as they journey through life. Sunday School Teachers - You can help with Summer Sunday School this summer! You will have the opportunity to work with the current staff during April and May so that you will be ready to assume the responsibilities of teacher or helper this summer. Contact Bev Giamanco at 832-6865.

Drivers - Do you have a commercial or chauffeur's driver's license? Have you taken a Defensive Driving Course? If so, we need people who are willing to drive the church van for shuttling people who park on the off-site parking lots. The most immediate need is for drivers on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.

Evangelism Callers - Have you ever wanted to share your faith, but don't know how? On Tuesday evenings you will receive hands-on experience sharing your faith as we visit people who have been recent worship guests.

Cooks - People who are willing to assist with meals for families in crisis situations, for new moms, and for special events are needed. If you like to cook and would be able to help with this practical ministry, please let us know!

Social Work Assistants - Are you a good listener? Do you have a heart to help the hurting? If so, you are needed to assist and "be a friend" to individuals with personal problems, financial, home life difficulties.

Outside Greeters - Did you know that people make up their minds about a church within the first three minutes they are here. Wouldn't it be great if there were people who greeted our members and guests when they arrived on our parking lot? Wouldn't it be great if those who needed help getting out of their cars or to the doors of the church, had someone to help right there? If you are interested in serving in this new ministry area, please mark your interest on your attendance card.

Screen Ministry - We're looking for some detail-minded adults and high school students to help run the screen on Sunday mornings. Training will be provided.

Sports Enthusiasts - If you are a sports enthusiast and have the gifts of administration and organization, your help is needed to further develop a sports ministry here at Webster Gardens. We need several people who can organize one-time events and/or sporting leagues for a season.

Small Group Leaders - If God has put a desire in your heart to minister to youth, then this is the area of ministry for you. Small group leaders are needed to facilitate small groups of high school and junior high students that meet bi-weekly. You can make a difference for eternity in the life of a junior or senior high youth! Contact Brian King with your questions.
